AS REPORTED in yesterday's Argus sport, Glamorgan have confirmed that Jason Gillespie will join the club as their overseas player for this season.
Gillespie, who has played 71 Tests and 97 one-day internationals for Australia, has taken 259 wickets in Test cricket.
The 32-year-old also has three centuries to his name, including a career-best 201 not out against Bangladesh.
Gillespie played for Yorkshire for the past two seasons and his capture has delighted Glamorgan's cricket manager Matthew Maynard.
"Jason is a proven performer at international level and he is just the sort of experienced bowler we were looking for to spearhead our attack,'' Maynard told the county's website, glamorgancricket.com.
"He will also be an important influence on some of the developing players in the dressing room."
Gillespie added: "I'm really excited about heading to Cardiff and my family love the place too.
"I'm also aware of the massive changes the ground at Cardiff has undergone over the past year, which is really exciting. I can't wait to get stuck in and help Glamorgan be as successful as they can be in a new era under Matthew Maynard."
