Sutton United v Newport County. Tomorrow. 3pm
COUNTY manager Peter Beadle has warned his players that they can't afford to be complacent against basement boys Sutton United.
The team is brimming with confidence after the pulsating 4-1 victory over bogey side Cambridge City on Wednesday night but Beadle insists that they can't take another three points for granted at Gander Green Lane.
"On paper it's a game we should definitely win," he said. "They're bottom of the league and we're in good form but we don't play on paper and it's my job to make sure we don't go there with the wrong attitude.
"The emphasis in training has been on going about the job in the right manner," he added.
"We can't afford to take this game lightly because anyone can beat anyone else in this league.
"We've seen it several times this season where a team has gone to a club down the bottom overly confident and been a goal or two down before they know it. And then it's too late to turn it round. We can't let that happen to us."
Wednesday's win took County up to sixth in the Blue Sqaure south table and with games in hand over Basingstoke and Bath immediately above them Beadle is pleased with the way the season is panning out.
"I think we're playing well and we're in a good position," he said, "but we'll take one game at a time and see what happens, what will be will be."
Striker Craig Hughes took his County goalscoring tally to 49 with a brace against Cambridge and the manager is delighted that his frontman is back amongst the goals.
"I was pleased for Craig, he was superb. His all-round game has been great and now he's got a couple of goals under his belt he's buzzing.
"I thought Charlie (Griffin) played well too and we've got Jules (Alsop) available after suspension so we're looking good up front."
And, despite what he described as "a funny five minutes" after the Cambridge goal on Wednesday, Beadle is also happy with his defence, singling out Mark Dodds for particular praise.
"Doddsy has done brilliantly in the last two games and he's really earned his place but he knows he can't drop his level at all because Lee Jarman will be desperate to get back in," he said.
"Once again it proves how strong our squad is this season."
