FIRST Division leaders Newport Civil Service continue to set the pace at the top defeating Mardy by four clear goals at Shannon Road, Lea Palmer, Mathew Palmer, Marc Coombs and Colin Wigmore being their marksmen.
Abertillery Bluebirds must be feeling the pressure of late for they have been defeated in their last three fixtures, going out of both the Gwent Amateur Cup and County Motors Cup, and losing to Blaenavon Blues at Cwmnantygroes 3-0, Michael Waite, Andrew Johnson and James Parfitt scoring for the Blues.
Cwmffrwdoer Sports defeated Panteg at Greenhill Road by a single goal, a penalty scored by substitute Mathew Shearman.
Cefn Fforest won by the same margin when visiting Abercarn United, Robert Hodson scoring the all-important goal. Treowen Stars and Albion Rovers shared four goals at Bush Park, Stephen Parfitt and Jason Shephard netting for Treowen, John Lillygreen with both for Albion.
Undy Athletic and Clydach Wasps also shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the Causeway, Martin Michelik for Undy and Mark Stockham for Clydach being the marksmen. This game was watched by members of the Groundhoppers who travelled from Slough and Oxford.
Second Division leaders Trethomas Bluebirds dropped vital points when sharing four goals with Trinant at Llanfabon Drive, Andrew Gomer scoring both their goals, Richard Lyons scoring both the Trinant goals.
Pentwynmawr Athletic were defeated for only the second time when entertaining local rivals Llanhilleth Athletic for whom Adam Carroll and Andrew Torrance scored in a 2-0 victory.
Tranch hit six when entertaining bottom club West Pontnewydd through a Mark Walker hat trick, Mark Carpanini, Ross Peake and John Aherne. In the local derby at Coronation Park, Newport Corinthians defeated Lliswerry 4-0 with goals from David Scanlon (2), Rhys Holcombe and John Edwards.
RTB Ebbw Vale defeated visitors Cromwell 2-1 with goals from Gareth Andrews and Daniel Davies. Malpas Gladiators and Lucas Cwmbran shared four goals at Westfields, Mathew Wolfe and Philip Ricci scoring for Malpas, Lee Newman and substitute Michael Manley for Lucas.
The Third Division is being dominated at the moment by two clubs, Govilon and Sudbrook Cricket Club.
Govilon had an easy home victory over bottom club Crusaders, Richard McCarthy and Jamie Laurent, two apiece, Dean Morgan and Scott Wall the goal scorers in a 6-2 win. Sudbrook Cricket Club scored eight when defeating Whiteheads at Mill Lane, Rory Aldritt, a hat trick, Richard Lund (2), Robert Thorn, Stuart Cochrane and Gordon Devoir the goal scorers.
Pilcs also hit the goal trail scoring seven when entertaining Caldicot Castle, Andy Walsh (4) and a hat trick from Luke Griffin. Abergavenny Thursdays enjoyed a 5-1 win over Sebastopol, Sam White and Lloyd Hughes, two apiece, and Colin Evans the goal scorers.
