THE weather improved for the latter part of the week and especially on Saturday morning with a drying wind and sunshine. This improvement allowed the 30 teams in the league to play a game of football.

Current Premier Division leaders were playing in the Langdon Cup. Second placed side Goytre played away against Pandy and Pandy won the match 3-2.

Pandy led 1-0 at half time. Pandy's goals came from two by Mike Smith plus one from Leyton Davies. Goytre's goal scorers were Chris Wilkins and Graham Mason.

Man of the match for Pandy was Mike Smith, man of the match for Goytre, Graham Mason. Pandy stays in fourth position. Goytre keep the runners-up spot.

Lower New Inn played hosts to Usk Town who were well on their way to victory when at half-time Usk Town led 5-2, but in the second half the Lower added two more and Usk Town held on to win the match 5-4.

Goal scorers for Usk Town were Carl McEwan, Ross Curzon, Will Barton, Jeremy Barton and Geraint Kalies. Man of the match for Lower New Inn was Alex Probert. Bottom club Llanfoist won 4-3 away at Pontypool Town who led 3-2 at half time. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town were Gareth Bowden, Scott Taylor and Phil Rogers. Goal scorers for Llanfoist were Leighton Brown (2) and Gareth Williams (2). Man of the match for Pontypool Town, Wayne Nash, man of the match for Llanfoist, Chris Rees.

Pontypool Town hold down seventh position. Llanfoist are in ninth position. This was only Llanfoist's second win of the season.

Crickhowell earned a valuable three points with a 3-2 home win over New Inn, but it was New Inn who led 1-0 at half time. Goal scorers for Crickhowell were Nick Hammett (2) and Paul Holloway. Goal scorers for New Inn, Billy Day and Paul Andrews. Man of the match for Crickhowell, John Jones. Man of the match for New Inn, Martin Sutton. Crickhowell are in 13th position. New Inn hold 11th position.

Current Division Two leaders Clydach B kept up their winning ways with a 5-2 win over third placed side Prescoed. Clydach B led 2-0 at half time. Prolific goal scorer Ryan Bennett scored (4). Phil Odowda chipped in with one.

Goal scorers for Prescoed were Grant Watkins and John Crabb. Man of the match for Clydach B was Jorden Powell. Man of the match for Prescoed, Grant Watkins. Clydach B holds an eight point lead at the top. Prescoed stays in third position.

Trevethin B with game in hand stays in second position following a narrow 2-1 win on the Island over Usk Town B. Pat Wong returning after a long-term injury missed a penalty for Usk.

Scott Lauder gave Usk Town B a 1-0 half time lead. Dwaine Hunt scored both Trevethin B goals in the second half to give his side, Trevethin B a win and maximum points.

The match was well refereed by stand-in referee Michael Jones of Usk. Man of the match for Usk Town B was goalkeeper Peter Phillips, who brought off a number of spectacular saves. Usk Town B stays in fourth position The two bottom clubs of Division Two played each other, Gilwern B were at home to Pontypool Town B who won the match 8-0. Pontypool Town B led 4-0 at half time. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B, Karl Hooper (4), Nathan Harris (2), Chris Stokes and Tim Mark. Anthony James was man of the match for Gilwern B. Chris Stokes was man of the match for Pontypool Town B. Gilwern B are in seventh position. Pontypool Town B hold sixth.

In the A Jones and Co Usk, Langdon cup, round one, Abergavenny Thursdays played Panteg on Pen-y-pound stadium. The sides were evenly matched with Gareth Staphnil scoring for Thursdays in the first half and Paul Thomas got an equaliser before half-time.

The 1-1 score remained after 90 minutes and after extra time, the match went into penalties, Thursdays scored five out of five but Panteg failed on one but scored four for Thursdays to go through 6-5.

Penalty goal scorers for Thursdays were Shaun Cheal, Andrew Edwards, David Mason, David Lambert and Ross Fury. Penalty goal scorers for Panteg, Ben Gifford, Lee Williams, Dan Maynard, Tony Dronfield. Paul Hale missed with his penalty shots. Thursdays keeper, Mason was outstanding.

In round two Llanarth A brought off a shock 1-0 away win at Clydach Wasps, the all important Llanarth A goal was scored by John Powell with a 30-yard screamer into the top corner, in the 30th minute.

Trevethin A booked their place into the next round with a 6-0 home win over visitors Gilwern and District A. Trevethin led 2-0 at half time. Prolific goal scorer Shaun Williams hit a hat-trick and single goals went to Stuart James, Chris Perry and Lee Harris.

The second round match between Llanarth B and Tranch was abandoned by referee Mike Parry in the 65th minute with Tranch leading 4-0. The league will look into the events.
