THIS weekend saw a near full programme of matches for the first time for several weeks with some high scoring matches taking place.
In the Premier Division, the lead at the top changed once again with Garnlydan not having a match. The other two teams in contention for top place, Fleur de Lys Welfare and Rhymney A, both recorded high scoring victories to leapfrog Garnlydan.
Fleur de Lys Welfare hosted Southend Athletic and won convincingly 7-2 while Rhymney A travelled to Castle Inn, Briery Hill and ran out 5-0 victors.
Fleur de Lys Welfare move to the top of the league on goal difference over Rhymney A with Garnlydan in third place, two points adrift but with a game in hand. Rhymney A and Garnlydan have to play each other twice in the run in to the end of the season.
The highest scoring match of the day saw Coach and Horses defeat Rassau Rangers 9-3. The other match in the Division saw Tredegar Athletic defeat Pantside 5-3 to stay in fourth place, slightly adrift of the top three clubs.
In Division One, Red Lion defeated Britannia Inn 9-0 and Rhymney B continued their climb up the table after a terrible start to the season with a 9-1 demolition of PFS Athletic.
The only other winners in this Division were Fleur de Lys who defeated 2nd placed Abertillery Excelsiors 2-1 away from home. The other two matches saw Blaina United draw with Tredegar Athletic 2-2 and FC Dug Out hold table toppers Tredegar Arms 3-3.
New team Nantyglo hold fifth spot in the league during their first season of competition.
Only two matches took place in the Reserve Division with Abertillery Bluebirds A confirming Champions spot with a 4-0 victory over Pentwynmawr and the B team winning 3-1 against Trinant.
With only three matches to play Abertillery Bluebirds A are hoping to remain undefeated in the league all season.
This weekend sees the second round of the Presidents Cup scheduled with the following ties being played: Castle Inn, Briery Hill v Nantyglo, Cefn Fforest v Pantside, Coach and Horses v Garnlydan, Rassau Rangers v Tredegar Athletic B, Rhymney A v Rhymney B, Tredegar Arms v Southend Athletic, Tredegar Athletic A v Red Lion.
The other cup competiton (Tom Perkins) will now take place on 16th February.
