CAERLEON and Newport YMCA both face North Wales opposition on Saturday when victory will earn them a place in thelast eight of the Welsh Cup - and a guaranteed pay-day of at least £5,000.
Caerleon travel to tackle Wrexham-based Huws Gray Cymru Alliance outfit GAP Queen's Park while YMCA will have home advantage against Principality Welsh Premier League strugglers Llangefni Town.
The form book shows the Gwent duo have a good chance to progress to the quarter-finals, especially YMCA, who are the county's highest placed MacWhirter Welsh League side in seventh position in Division One.
The Mendgalfief Road side will rely on strike duo Lewis Sommers and Aaron Stewart, who have netted 22 and 15 times, respectively, this season, for their goals - although it's been team displays which has seen their last-seven-match record read: won four, drawn two and lost only one (4-2 on penalties after extra time against Swansea-based West End in a Nathaniel Cup game).
Relegation-threatned Llangefni, on the other hand, have managed to produce just one victory, a couple of draws and seven defeats in their last 10 outings.
That form led to this week's sacking of player-manager Alex Kevin, who was only appointed a month ago.
"It's of little interest to us that they haven't got a manager because we're only concentrating on winning, " said YMCA manager Mark Coldrick, who has only young striker Michael Palmer missing because of suspension. "Wer've prepared well and will give it our best shot."
After being exempt from the Welsh Cup first round, Llangefni have reached this stage by beating Hawarden Rangers 5-0 and Mynydd Isa 3-0.
YMCA have taken advantage of being drawn at home three times already by defeating Gotyre 2-0, Cambrian & Clydach 4-1 and PWPL side and then-holders Carmarthen Town 2-1.
Ninth-placed Caerleon are unbeaten in four league and cup matches, but face a tougher task against GAP Queen's Park, who've not lost since December 22 - seven games ago.
However they will welcome back attacking midfielder Luke Cueto from suspension to form a full-strength squad.
"We're all fit, able and ready for the challenge," said Caerleon boss Brendan Dowd. "I went to watch GAP a few weeks ago and they looked a good side, but we've done well ourselves recently.
"It's a bit of a trip all the way up there, but the spirit in the squad is excellent and hopefully the journey will help bond us further."
To get this far, they've won 4-3 at Pwllheli and 3-1 at home against both Penrhyncoch and MWL side Afan Lido.
Caerleon have also had three home ties, having seen off Treharris Athletic 4-0, Taffs Well 2-1 and Brymbo 2-0.
In Division One of the MWL, Cwmbran Town face a massive hurdle to recapture their early-season form which took them to the top of the table following a 3-1 home success over Gwent rivals Caldicot Town on October 27.
In a dramatic fall from grace, eighth-placed Cwmbran have only picked up seven points from the last 30 on offer, have not scored in their previous six full games and the last time they actually found the back of the net was when now-departed striker Ohene Quinhare netted in 67th minute of the 5-2 away defeat by, coincidently, Goytre on November 3 - 563 minutes ago.
Goytre, on the other hand, have won their last six league and cup games and are unbeaten since surprisingly losing 2-1 at home to Bryntirion Athletic on November 14.
Caldicot Town are gradually easing their relegation fears and are expected to continue to do so when they host bottom-placed Garw while Croesyceiliog, who are only one place above the three-strong drop zone, visit Taffs Well.
In Division Two, Llanwern can't move up from seventh even if the beat Grange Harlequins at the home of Caerau (Ely), tenth-placed Cwmbran Celtichost Cardiff Corries while in-form Tredegar Town will seek to climb further away from danger by gaining a positive result at Bettws.
Risca United have slipped to eighth in Division Three and face a difficult challenge by second-placed visitors Newcastle Emlyn while Goytre, 11th, host the team immediately below them, Cwmamman United.
Aberbargoed Buds ended Monmouth Town's unbeaten six-game run last Saturday and moved up to 13th position and they'll seek to prove the result was no fluke by beating visitors Llansawel.
That defeat apart, Monmouth have done well recently to steer themselves away from danger although they can't move from 14th place even if they win at Llantwit Fadre.
Bottom-placed Abertillery Excelsiors are just three points away from climbing out of the two-strong relegation area. But they have played many more matches than all of their rivals and may find it difficult to bring anything positive home from a trip to face fifth-placed Penrhiwceiber Rangers.
