NEWPORT have snapped up Pontypool scrum half Andrew Quick, though the 24-year-old will remain on dual-contract with the Division One side until their injury problems subside.

Quick made a brief appearance for the Black and Ambers on permit in the Premiership win over Llanelli in November and will replace Steve Parry, who has returned to Nelson after finding chances limited at Rodney Parade.

The new signing will fight for a place with Matt Thomas and Newport Gwent Dragon Alex Walker, though he will remain at Pontypool Park until Gareth Betts has recovered from injury.

Newport head coach Ian Hembrow said: "Andrew has impressed us and we feel he really is a bright prospect. He'll battle for a spot with the other nines and I'm sure he will make an impact."

Meanwhile, Newport will appeal flanker Paul Williams' red card in the loss to Swansea when his case goes before a disciplinary committee on Tuesday.
