WALES got their big weekend against England off to a winning start when they won their clash in the Wellington Sevens in New Zealand 15-5.
And James Lewis, one of the Lewis twins of Newport Gwent Dragons, scored one of Wales' three tries. Richie Pugh and Tal Selley got the others.
Wales were soundly beaten 40-7 by Fiji in their first game after leading 7-0, but they recovered to beat England and then got the better of the Cook Islands, who had beaten England.
Wales won that game 26-7 to reach the quarter-finals, Dave Evans, Alec Jenkins, Lee Williams and Selley scoring their tries.
Dragons coach Paul Turner, who is with the sevens squad as an observer, said "It should be a boost back home to have beaten England, it was a good start to the weekend.
"I've been really impressed by the organisation of the tour and not only the major nations but the smaller ones like Kenya and the Cook Islands.
"The power and pace have been impressive and the players are playing like 15-a-side using the full width of the pitch."
