NEWPORT forwards coach Sven Cronk is determined to give the Rodney Parade faithful something to cheer about in the last home game of the season against Bedwas tomorrow afternoon.

It has been a season to forget for the Black and Ambers and their woes on their own patch have played a large part in their mid-table league placing.

Newport have suffered five defeats out of the 12 league games they have played at the Parade and Cronk, who will take over from Ian Hembrow as head coach at the end of the season, believes they need to ensure another defeat isn't chalked up this weekend.

"We feel we need to put in a good performance in front of our fans and we talked about that at training on Monday," he said.

"Some of our games have not gone to plan at home but it is important that we finish well so that we can take that into next season.

"We did what we needed to do last week at Llanelli in difficult conditions and we need to build on that against Bedwas.

"We have plenty of Gwent derbies and sometimes it is hard to play the type of rugby you would like to. It's always physically tough and the contact area is key and it is crucial that we impose our game on them from the off."

Several players are approaching milestones this weekend with skipper Dai Pattison joining a list of 115 others who have passed 150 appearances for the club and hooker Andrew Brown and wing Will Kershaw Naylor stepping out in black and amber for 100th time.

"Landmarks are important and all of the players have been excellent servants," said Cronk, who himself made 183 appearances for the club.

"Andrew Brown has probably been our most consistent player this season and we are glad he is able to pass his century at home -he picked up his third yellow card but the suspension only comes in on Monday so he misses the Llandovery game instead."

Matt Thomas returns at scrum half with Sam Brown deputising on permit.
