SO this is it. D-Day for Newport County. After 41 games it all comes down to the last 90 minutes this afternoon when Fisher Athletic visit Spytty Park (kick off 3pm).
Just like 12 months ago, County go into the final game of the season knowing that a win will guarantee them a place in the play-offs and keep the dream of playing Conference football alive.
And, while they fell at the final hurdle against Cambridge City a year ago, manager Peter Beadle is right to point out that his side have proved they are winners this season.
By winning the FAW Premier Cup and beating League One champions Swansea, FA Cup finalists Cardiff and runaway Welsh Premier champions Llanelli to claim the trophy, the boys in amber have shown they can handle the big occasion. Monday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of Thurrock was an awful result and a desperately poor performance by the Exiles but that will be forgotten if they can come up with the goods today.
The Argus joins Beadle, captain Steve Jenkins and chairman Chris Blight in urging the people of Newport to support their team in record numbers this afternoon.
One thing that is certain is that the management and players of Newport County will do everything in their power to avoid a repeat of the heartbreaking conclusion to last season.
They need you, the fans, to keep the faith, creating a fantastic atmosphere and playing your part in getting this club back where it belongs.
