NEWPORT County AFC will be without left-back Adam Lewis for the rest of the season after the Liverpool loanee suffered a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old has been a growing force for the Exiles after arriving from Anfield last summer.
Lewis racked up 28 appearances but limped off in the 1-1 draw at Walsall earlier this month, a blow that will end his time at Rodney Parade.
“The scans weren’t good,” said manager Graham Coughlan. “It’s a hamstring injury and that’s his season finished.
“We are massively disappointed because he’s been a brilliant servant for this club from Liverpool on loan, and we thank both Liverpool and Adam for his service.
“It’s a big loss because he gives us balance with the left foot on that side and [is dangerous] with his set pieces.
“I am a body down and we don’t have the biggest squad but we will do what we do in true Newport County fashion, we will roll our sleeves up and dig deep.”
The blow leaves Aaron Lewis as the sole option down the left, although forward Will Evans has occasionally been used as a wing-back.
“Adam is a left-back, left wing-back while Will is a striker so that for me would be square pegs in round holes,” said Coughlan.
“Will can no doubt do a job down that side but we have to plug the holes and get on with the hand that we have been dealt. It’s a problem that I would have to solve, it’s a big loss and that natural balance will be missed.”
