NIGEL Stephenson has left his job as general manager of Newport County AFC.
Stephenson was appointed to the role in November 2019 after previously being finance manager at the club since 2016.
The Exiles appointed Kelly Anderson as interim general manager late last year after Stephenson suffered health issues, as alluded to by a club statement confirming his departure.
It read: “The club are able to confirm that Nigel Stephenson is no longer employed as general manager at the club. We wish Nigel all the best with his ongoing recovery.”
County have had a number of behind the scenes changes in recent months with Miami-based businessman Jon Pratt joining the board as a co-opted director last month.
He has added business acumen rather than financial investment so far – the Exiles are a Trust-owned club and any changes to the structure would need the backing of 75 per cent of members at an EGM.
Chairman Gavin Foxall has been absent since January while Kevin Ward, who was elected in 2018, stood down from the Exiles’ board last week after being appointed chairman of Newport Live, citing a conflict of interest.
Sporting director Darren Kelly left for Hartlepool in February and Gareth Evans has been promoted to club secretary after Matthew Higgins left for West Ham United.
Matters are steadier on the field with Graham Coughlan’s side on the brink of safety in League Two thanks to a strong run of form since February.
