GERWYN Price never got to pull on a Dragons jersey but now the darts star will feature on them.
The Rodney Parade club and the former world champion have come to an agreement where they will wear each other’s logos.
Price, who starts his bid for World Matchplay glory this weekend, will feature the Dragons’ crest on the back of his shirt.
The Dragons will feature the logo of the ‘Iceman’ on their home, away and European jerseys in the coming campaign.
Price turned to darts after starring as a hooker with 38-year-old from Markham’s exploits for Cross Keys earning a short-term deal with Glasgow, who he helped crush the Dragons 60-3 at Rodney Parade in 2013.
“It’s fantastic to link up with Dragons,” said Price, who was invited to train with Dai Flanagan’s squad before taking them on at darts last season.
“I’d have liked to have come down here and played for a few seasons, so it’s nice to be involved in this way and really show my support for the team.
“It’s always been one of my favourite clubs and being a Gwent man it’s great to see my logo on the playing jersey and vice versa.
“I’ll be proud to have Dragons on my shirt this season. It’s important to me to show my support for my local team and hopefully we’ll both have a successful 12 months.
“I’ve always had a warm welcome at Rodney Parade, enjoy seeing the players, and we had some fun with the darts tournament earlier this season. This partnership is a great way of me continuing to be involved and really showing my support.”
Price’s links with the Dragons are reinforced by his friendship with commercial director Jonathan Westwood.
The former Newbridge and Newport back was his director of rugby at Keys when the Pandy Park club won the WRU National Cup and made the final of the British and Irish Cup in 2012.
Westwood, whose son Joe plays for the Dragons and Wales Under-20s, said: “I’ve always had a strong personal affinity with Gezzy through our time at Cross Keys, so it’s great for us to continue his love of Gwent rugby.
“He is a fantastic follower of the Dragons, a real part of the Dragons family, with his visit to our training base earlier this season attracting over a quarter of a million views on social media alone.
“He is a regular visitor to Ystrad Mynach and Dai Flanagan has also been really welcoming to Gezzy, with them being former team-mates from Wales age grade.
“We’ve spoken about showing our support for each other and so are thrilled that our logo will be on his shirt, alongside some of our partners such as Nathan Jenkins at Valley Water, an influential member of the Dragons family.
“We look forward to developing our reciprocal brand awareness and partnership and we wish Gezzy all the best at the World Matchplay this weekend. We can’t wait to welcome him back down to Rodney Parade this season.”
