A former England Golf manager is returning to the sport in Wales.
Gareth Jenkins, the former England Golf men’s squad manager, is embracing his Welsh roots as he steps into his new role as Wales Golf director of performance and pathway.
With his family from Abertillery, he earlier represented England at boys and men’s levels within the sport.
This homecoming has thrilled his father.
Mr Jenkins said: "It is funny because I tried to play for Wales when I was a kid and competing in events like the Aberconwy Trophy, but it was England who selected me.
"My Dad is chuffed to bits that I am finally coming home to the right nation."
Bringing more than 20 years' experience in elite golf development, he will now play a pivotal role in enhancing Welsh golf at national, European, and global levels.
"I have been involved in golf for more than 20 years since starting with the Golf Foundation," he shared.
He further expressed excitement about collaborating with Welsh coaches, growing the game, and nurturing an exemplary breed of players in the country.
Other appointments at Wales Golf include Dan Fullager as competitions manager and Rebecca Hawke as competitions coordinator, primarily in charge of PING Welsh Junior Tour.
Mr Fullager is keen to leverage his deep knowledge of golf events in Wales to heighten the tournaments.
Echoing this sentiment, Ms Hawke, a sports science graduate with a Masters in Nutrition and Physiology in Sport, is excited to encourage children's participation in golf.
