YOUNG Pontypool fighter Myles Taylor has produced an impressive one-two combination – following jiu-jitsu glory by becoming Welsh boxing champion.
The West Mon pupil won the gold medal at the Elite World Jiu-jitsu Championships at Aldersley Sports Village last July.
He followed that up by celebrating his 12th birthday in style earlier this month by becoming Welsh boxing champion at his weight of 29.5kg, in turn gaining his Welsh vest.
Taylor trains around 16 hours a week on his various disciplines and is supported by the Mic Morris Memorial Trust, while his school have supported his sporting ambitions.
“He has trained jiu-jitsu since the age of six with his coach Ashley Amos at Amos Martial Arts in Mamhilad and has boxed since he was seven at Pontypool Boxing club run by head coaches Mark James and Lyndon James,” said his father Mark.
“Myles has to sacrifice a lot of things with his friends in order to train and misses out going out a lot, but he has a big ambition and tries his best to balance time with his friends.
“As well as training with his coaches he is so disciplined with his food, ensuring his diet is always healthy and giving him maximum energy, which is hard for a 12 year old.
“He also works very hard on his fitness and also represented Pontypool District Schools at rugby last year.”
