DRAGONS lock Matthew Screech gets a chance to impress for Wales against Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Friday.

The 31-year-old has been named in the XV for the uncapped fixture in Brisbane (kick-off 10.55am) along with Rodney Parade teammate Rio Dyer.

There is no place in the matchday squad for lock Ben Carter because of injury while number eight Aaron Wainwright is already back in Wales after a hamstring tear in the first Test defeat.

"When we named the team on Tuesday, we named Ben in the squad. Unfortunately, he had to pull out as the shoulder wasn’t 100 per cent so hopefully that doesn’t take too long," said head coach Warren Gatland.

Screech is reunited in the second row with former Dragons captain Cory Hill, who leads the experimental side at Suncorp Stadium after returning to the international scene with a pair of outings off the bench against the Wallabies.

CHANCE: Regan Grace starts for WalesCHANCE: Regan Grace starts for Wales

Bath speedster Regan Grace will make his first appearance for Wales in rugby union after previously starring in league.

There are first starts for loosehead Kemsley Mathias, hooker Evan Lloyd, number eight Mackenzie Martin and centre Eddie James as Warren Gatland ensures all fit members of the touring party get action.

Replacement hooker Efan Daniel would be in line for his first Wales appearance from the bench.

Gatland said: “We said that we want the players that have come out here on tour to have an involvement whether that is starting or in the 23. That was always the plan.

“Unfortunately a few players miss out due to injury, but this game against the Queensland Reds gives a number of others an opportunity to go out and put in a performance.

“I’ve been pleased with the growth we’ve seen in the squad over the last three or four weeks and that growth will continue.

“We’re expecting a good challenge from the Reds on Friday and know they will be up for this fixture.

“I’m looking to see us stay in the moment and keep scanning for opportunities as well as being alert to threats. Little efforts will make the difference.”

Screech won his second cap against South Africa at Twickenham to earn a spot in the touring party, putting in a strong display alongside Carter against the legendary pair of Eben Etzebeth and Franco Mostert.

The Dragons stalwart will be keen to show that he deserves to be in consideration when the likes of Will Rowlands, Adam Beard and Teddy Williams return to the fray.

Dyer, meanwhile, is asked to go to the well for one last time in a mammoth season in which he won 15 caps, faced the Barbarians and played 14 times for the Dragons.

The 24-year-old from Rogerstone scored a majestic try in last weekend’s second try defeat to the Wallabies in Melbourne.
