THE Gwalia United era is under way with another friendly at Spytty Park on Sunday in the count down to the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

Gwalia, formerly known as Cardiff City Ladies, hosted Wolverhampton Wanderers Women last weekend and were beaten 5-0 by the National League North side.

Another Midlands side make the trip to Newport on Sunday when West Bromwich Albion are the visitors (kick-off 2pm).

Gwalia, the only Welsh representatives in the English pyramid, get their campaign in the third tier under way at Billericay Town on Sunday, August 18.

Julian Jenkins, co-owner of United with Damien Singh, said: “This move from Cardiff City Ladies to Gwalia United has been nearly 12 months in the offing, and we are so pleased now that the next chapter of this proud club is officially upon us.

“This club represents each and every person in Wales through the vehicle of women's football, we will not stop until we get this great club back where it belongs in the WSL.”

United captain Cori Williams-Mills and Lauren Davies launched the new era last week with a training session at Penpych Community Primary School in Blaenrhondda, in line with the club’s message of ‘if they can see it, they can be it’.
