NO perfect records are left after the second round of fixtures in what looks set to be a fiercely competitive Ardal South East.

Five teams - Abertillery Bluebirds, Brecon Corries, Canton, Newport Corinthians and Abercarn - are setting the pace with four points from their pair of games while Blaenavon Blues and Tredegar Town are yet to get up and running.

Chepstow Town made an impression on opening night when they hammered Undy 11-2, yet they suffered a home loss to neighbours Caldicot with Sam Watkins the early scorer.

Undy responded to their hammering by beating Tredegar 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick by Gareth Cullimore after Dafydd Jones' opener.

Newport Corries won 2-1 at Goytre thanks to Declan Grant's goal at the death, that after Chris Ham put the visitors in front and Sam Beckett responded.

Abercarn followed up their opening draw with a 1-0 win at Treharris Athletic Western, Calwyn Fry the scorer in the second half.

The spoils were shared between Abertillery and Brecon with Curtis Methven putting the hosts in front in the first half and Dale Evans levelling just past the hour, with the Corris missing a chance for three points on the road when Corey Evans failed from the penalty spot late on.

There was also a point apiece when Abergavenny Town welcomed Risca United to Pen-y-pound Stadium after Jack Evans equalised late on for the hosts following Finaly Wood’s opener midway through the first half.

Croesyceiliog lost 2-0 at home to Canton, Elliot Humphries and Jack Wheten the scorers, while Treowen Stars beat Blaenavon Blues 3-1 thanks to goals by Chris Colvin, Corey Jenkins and Jordan Needs, Matthew Burns scoring a late consolation for the visitors.

There are just two league games this weekend with Blaenavon Blues hosting Croesy on Friday and Chepstow travelling to Abertillery on Saturday.

That is because of a raft of fixtures in the qualifying round of the FAW Amateur Trophy, which has been won by Gwent clubs in the last two seasons with Trethomas Bluebirds lifting it in 2023 and Newport City earlier this year.
