Wales has some of the best quality tennis courts in the UK according to recent research.

The study, Game, Set & Match report, by sports equipment retailer Net World Sports, has explored tennis court quality and costs across the UK.

It has found that Northern Ireland, the East Midlands, the South West and Wales all boast top-rated courts, with an average Google review rating of 4.6 out of 5.

In terms of access to tennis facilities, the East of England leads with 18 courts per 100,000 people. Wales has just eight in comparison.

Hiring cost trends reveal that Scotland is the priciest at £12.42 for a weekend booking, followed by the West Midlands and the North East at £10.08 and £9.93 respectively.

For thriftier players, the South West offers the cheapest average court hire cost of just £5. Wales is just behind this with average hire costs of £5.58.

When considering individual cities, Edinburgh and Chelmsford are the most expensive to play in, while Salford and Bristol are the cheapest.

Cardiff, with its robust facilities (4.7 rating) and reasonable cost per hour (£6.75), offers the best playing experience overall.
