NEWPORT County AFC have added to their firepower for the upcoming League Two campaign by signing former Leeds United winger Bobby Kamwa.
The 24-year-old becomes the Exiles’ 12th signing of a busy summer and arrives after spending the last two seasons with Burton Albion in League One.
With new head coach Nelson Jardim favouring a 4-3-3 formation, Cameroon-born Kamwa is another welcome option out wide.
“I’m looking forward to bringing as much excitement to the fans as possible,” said Kamwa, who was on trial at Walsall this summer.
“I’ve spoken to the manager and he told me about the plans going forward, and that was something that really excited me.
“I’ve trained with the team over the last few days and it feels like a really good place to be.
“I want to bring as much experience as I can to the team this year from my time in League One.
“This league is competitive, and it’s not just a walk in the park, so I feel like the team needs something going forward that can excite the fans and that’s why they’ve brought me in.
“I would describe myself as a tricky and pacy winger. I’m a forward-thinking player who likes to score goals.
“I love to beat my man with pace and that’s something the fans can really expect from me. I just can’t wait to get going.”
Kamwa came through Leeds’ academy and, after earning a two-year professional contract, went out on loan to Dunfermline in the Scottish Premiership.
In 2022 he joined Burton and he made 46 appearances for the Brewers, scoring four goals.
Kamwa joins Will Evans, Kiban Rai, Nathan Wood and fellow new signings Michael Spellman and Oliver Greaves as an option out wide, while striker Luke Jephcott has also been given action in that role in pre-season.
The new boy will aim to feature in County's League Two opener at Cheltenham next Saturday.
“I’m really looking forward to the start of the new campaign,” said the winger.
“Cheltenham are a side I know quite well having played against them last season, so I’m looking forward to playing against them once again.
“Before coming here, one of the first things I checked was the fan base. What I’ve seen from them is great and I’m looking forward to meeting them and feeling that atmosphere at Rodney Parade.”
