TRETHOMAS Bluebirds continued their impressive start to the season to go top of Cymru South with a 3-0 win over Penrhiwceiber Rangers.

Fresh from a Nathaniel MG Cup success over Baglan Dragons, one that earns a place in Thursday evening's third round draw, Mark Dunford's side secured their second league win.

Trethomas led after half an hour thanks to Ethan Edwards’ superb opener – a controlled volley from a cleared corner – and doubled their advantage soon after the restart when Gareth Tedstone scored from the spot.

With the visitors reduced to 10 men after Joseph Jenkins’ second yellow card, the Bluebirds sealed the win with 20 minutes to go through Tedstone.

Trethomas are one of two teams to have enjoyed a pair of league successes, Pontypridd United the other after their Cymru Premier relegation thanks to a hard-earned 3-2 victory at Trefelin.

Newport City shared the spoils with Cambian United after a goalless draw in a game played at Cardiff House of Sport in Leckwith due to work being done at Spytty Park.

Cwmbran Celtic are yet to get up and running but can take some encouragement from a 3-1 defeat at Llanelli Town.

Last year’s runners-up raced into a 2-0 lead at Steboneath Park thanks to goals by Ethan Cann and Joseph Lloyd.

However, Celtic were back in touch when Jordan Meaney scored in the sixth minute of the second half and home nerves were only settled when Danny Williams scored with four to go.

The action continues on Friday when Newport City travel to Afan Lido.

Cwmbran Celtic welcome Trefelin to Avondale Park on Saturday while the Bluebirds head west to Ammanford.

Abertillery Bluebirds are early pace-setters in Ardal South East after bouncing back from a disappointment against Chepstow.

The Bluebirds, relegated from Cymru South last season, won 3-1 against Blaenavon Blues thanks to goals by Ryan Meredith, Tom Beynon (who also missed a penalty) and Cameron Williams, that after Alex Berrow put the visitors in front.

Abertillery are on seven points along with Canton and Brecon Corries, who both have a game in hand.

Canton won 1-0 at Chepstow while Brecon won 2-1 at Tredegar Town, stealing the spoils thanks to late strikes by Luke Roughley and Dale Evans.

Abergavenny and Abercarn drew 1-1, Goytre won 3-1 at home to Treharris Athletic Western, Caldicot won 3-1 at Undy and Newport Corinthians suffered a 3-0 defeat at Treowen Stars.

Risca were given a scare when Croesyceiliog made a late, late surge but the visitors held on for a 4-3 win at Woodland Road.

The table should start to settle by the end of the month after three successive weekends of action.
