NEWPORT Cycle Speedway’s first team kept up their challenge for South and South Wales Division One honours with a comfortable 108-91 home win over an understrength East Newport.
The overnight rain made the track very grippy and this produced some fine racing from both teams in front of a sizeable crowd.
Two riders, Ben Mould of Newport and Sean Bennett of East Newport, scored faultless maximums.
Callum Goward and Sam Marsh also impressed for the home team as did Owen Johnson and James Bailey for the visitors.
East Newport were spirited opponents but Newport had too much strength in depth on the day and recorded the double over their neighbours in what was a good spirited meeting.
Newport turn their attention to trying to defend their League Gold Cup title on Sunday on home shale with tapes up at midday.
