PONTHIR Phoenixes enjoyed a special coaching session from Wales boss Rhian Wilkinson after buying a batch of tickets for the bid for play-off glory.

The Welsh Women will take on Slovakia at Cardiff City Stadium in the UEFA Euro 2025 play-off semi-finals on Tuesday, October 29.

Ponthir have bought more than 60 tickets to cheer on Jess Fishlock & Co in the capital and were rewarded with a special visit.

Wilkinson visited the Gwent club to deliver a coaching session for the club’s under-14s girls as a thank you.

Ponthir Phoenixes has girls teams from under-8s to under-16s and first attended a game at the FIFA World Cup play-off semi-final against Bosnia & Herzegovina in 2022.

The club did not want to miss another opportunity to see the team make history when they play Slovakia.

Head coach Richard Johnson said “We went to the last play-off for the World Cup in 2022 and we had a great time.

“When we realised that Cymru was going to be in another play-off we thought it would be a great idea to do the same again.”

“Having Rhian run a training session was a fantastic and memorable experience for the girls and our club. We’ll be there to cheer on the team against Slovakia in October. C’mon Cymru!”

The Football Association of Wales are looking to break the attendance record of a women’s national team game set at 15,200 following the World Cup play-off at the Cardiff City Stadium in October 2022.

Group bookings from clubs and schools are expected to play a big part in reaching that milestone, which offer a discounted rate on tickets and are open for schools, clubs and any individual looking to buy 10 or more tickets.

Wilkinson said; “The support of local clubs and schools means the world to us, to have over 60 fans coming from just this club, Ponthir Phoenix, to support our team is massive.

“This will be my first game at Cardiff City Stadium so I am very excited, I’d love to put an appeal out to all the clubs, local schools and the people within the community to come out and support these women.

“We want to get a massive crowd out to watch and break the record again. This is a team full of once in a generation type players.”

Forms for group bookings are on the FAW website with discounted tickets priced at £8 for adults and £3 for children. The deadline to submit group bookings is Friday, October 18.

Individual tickets are on sale priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, with discounts available for Red Wall members.
