THE Republic of Ireland stand between Wales and their first major tournament after a dramatic play-off semi-final victory over Slovakia.
Ceri Holland scored in the 112th minute of extra time to win the tie after Jess Fishlock’s first half goal had levelled things up after the 2-1 away loss.
The 3-2 aggregate triumph means that Wales will face the Irish for a spot at Euro 2025 with the first leg at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, November 29 before an Aviva Stadium clash in Dublin on Tuesday, December 3.
Boss Rhian Wilkinson believes the manner of Wales’ win will help them as they bid to qualify for a first major finals.
“I’m exhausted. The players gave everything they had. I am a proud coach,” said boss Rhian Wilkinson afterwards.
“We found a way to figure things out, that is how great teams are made. Momentum builds and we'll learn so much from such a resilient display."
Wales dominated the encounter in Cardiff but were frustrated by a raft of missed chances and several offsides.
In fact, the assistant referee also put her flag up after Holland scored the rebound after Kayleigh Barton hit the post but VAR intervened.
