TRETHOMAS Bluebirds were fresh from being crowned Ardal South East champions last time they hosted Newport City but this evening they aim to keep setting the pace in Cymru South.
The Bluebirds have made a superb start to the season and head into November as the surprise leaders, albeit with a slender three-point advantage over Cambrian United and Pontypridd.
Last weekend goals by Ethan Edwards and Gareth Tedstone earned a 2-1 win against Goytre United in Port Talbot.
Trethomas have carried their momentum into 2024/25 after impressively winning Ardal SE with a record of 25 wins, three draws and two defeats from their 30 games, scoring a century of goals and conceding just 25.
However, Newport were just seven points behind after a superb run of form in 2024 that also saw them win the FAW Amateur Trophy, then win promotion through a play-off.
The Steelmen were one of the two sides to beat the Bluebirds, taking the spoils 4-2 in Ystrad Mynach at the end of the season.
Sam Houldsworth's team are mid-table in Cymru South - but they are just three points of second and six behind Trethomas.
They had a mixed October in which they won impressively at Llanelli 3-2, then drew at Llantwit Major before a disappointing 3-1 loss at Spytty Park last Friday to Penrhiwceiber Rangers.
Newport have a chance to move to within striking distance of the Bluebirds if they can repeat May’s triumph at CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence.
Cwmbran Celtic will aim to cause an upset when they host Llanelli Town at Avondale Motor Park on Saturday afternoon.
Simon Berry’s side were beaten 6-2 by Ammanford and are just two points above the relegation zone while Llanelli, who have lost just once in the league but are fourth because they have drawn five, are fresh from a 5-0 hammering of Taffs Well.
Cymru South fixtures: Friday - Caerau Ely v Baglan Dragons, Pontypridd United v Ammanford, Taffs Well v Goytre United, Trethomas Bluebirds v Newport City; Saturday - Cwmbran Celtic v Llanelli Town, Llantwit Major v Afan Lido, Penrhiwceiber Rangers v Carmarthen Town, Trefelin BGC v Cambrian United.
