CWMBRAN Celtic will attempt to climb out of the Cymru South relegation zone when they travel to bottom club Afan Lido this evening.

Simon Berry’s team dropped into the bottom three despite a strong performance in defeat to title-chasing Llanelli at Avondale Motor Park last weekend.

The Reds took the spoils thanks to Henry Jones’ penalty in the 38th minute but Cwmbran can take heart from being edged out by a side tipped to be back in Cymru Premier next season.

Nonetheless, Celtic have lost four of their last five fixtures and will be determined to leave Aberavon with something to show for their efforts.

Last season Afan Lido won 2-1 on home soil and Cwmbran got revenge with a 2-0 win in Torfaen.

Trethomas Bluebirds are still the surprise leaders after a stunning win against Newport City last weekend in Ystrad Mynach.

The pace-setters trailed 1-0 at the death but then stole the spoils thanks to a pair of free-kicks, Kallum Thomas striking in the 89th minute and then Jack Jones deep into added time.

Mark Dunford’s side go on their travels on Saturday to Cambrian United, who have dropped to sixth after two losses and a draw from their last three.

Newport head for Port Talbot on Saturday and will aim to take their frustration out on Baglan Dragons after being so close to closing within striking distance of the Bluebirds thanks to a Nat Jarvis strike.

The Steelmen and Dragons are both on 18 points in mid-table, nine off the leaders and six ahead of Cwmbran.

Wales against Fiji in the autumn series rugby opener at Principality Stadium isn’t the only cracking clash in the capital on Sunday – Treowen Stars travel to Canton in Ardal South East.

The Newbridge side are top of the table with Canton three points back having played a game more.

Treowen won 3-0 when the sides met in August and a repeat would ensure there is some daylight at the top.
