NEWPORT head to Glamorgan Wanderers’ Memorial Ground with their feet placed firmly on the ground after their 65-21 thrashing of Swansea last weekend.
Head coach Sven Cronk was delighted with their eight-try home demolition of the All Whites but knows they’ll have to be at their best tomorrow.
The Cardiff side haven’t lost in the Premiership at their Ely home since Aberavon lowered their colours in March.
The contest between the high-flying Black and Ambers, with just one defeat all season, and a tough Wanderers side could be a cracker.
Cronk said Newport have found a winning combination after some hard pre-season work: “We were impressive against Swansea last week, we’re comfy on the ball and playing some nice rugby and when we do have to defend, we do it effectively.
“You never know how the season is going to turn out but we were back in training early and concentrated on our conditioning and power work and produced a more professional environment and the players have enjoyed stepping up a level.
“But we’ll take each game as it comes.”
“We haven’t talked about winning anything and we’re keeping our feet on the ground. We are only six games into the season and there’s a long way to go.”
Wanderers thumped Bridgend 30-12 last week and have a crop of talented young players, including the highly regarded centre Dafydd Hewitt who has impressed playing for the Cardiff Blues.
Cronk said winning at Wanderers is never easy.
“The Memorial Ground hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for us recently and they turned us over there in the quarter-final of the Swalec Cup last season (Newport lost 29-12).”
Cronk said: “It’s always a hard place to go and win, (Wanderers’ head coach) Richard Hodges is doing a good job so we are expecting a tough ordeal.”
