HAVING made his debut for Glamorgan this year, Jamie Dalrymple has now been handed the honour of captaining the side that made this year’s Quarter Finals for the Twenty20 Cup and the Playoff’s for the NatWest Pro 40s.
The decision of the club was unanimous following a strong recommendation from cricket manager, Matthew Maynard.
Dalrymple has represented England on numerous occasions having played 27 one-day Internationals for the team.
He was also a member of England’s touring party to Australia in 2006/7, for the ICC Champions Trophy 2006/7 and the ICC World Cup in 2006/07.
Prior to joining Glamorgan, he played at Middlesex where he was a key player between 2000 and 2007.
He recently won Glamorgan’s 'player of the year' award for the 2008 season.
Commenting on the appointment, Maynard said: "Jamie was signed to Glamorgan due to his experience and strong character which are both key qualities for a Ccaptain. Having given Jamie the opportunity to lead the team in Southend during the season, it became overwhelmingly clear that he was the obvious choice for captain should David Hemp not continue at the club."
