THE Dragons Under-20s got their WRU Regional Championship campaign off to a winning start against their Blues counterparts at a rain-sodden Eugene Cross Park last night with a 13-12 victory.
The hosts led 7-5 at the break in Ebbw Vale courtesy of a try by Cross Keys scrum-half James Leadbeater that was converted by full-back Jason Tovey.
Tovey, who was a try scorer in Newport Gwent Dragons’ EDF Energy Cup defeat in Gloucester last weekend, added a pair of penalties in the second half to ensure that the Dragons held off the visitors’ stiff challenge.
The Dragons travel to face the Scarlets in Narbeth next Wednesday before ending the campaign against the Ospreys at Newport’s Rodney Parade on November 19.
