CWMCARN Paragon’s former top rider Darren Tudor has benefited from the fabulous success achieved by the Great Britain Cycling Team in this year’s World Track Championships and the Olympic Games.

Tudor has been promoted to one of the most senior positions in the GB managerial structure, men’s under-23 endurance and junior development coach.

After a number of successful years working with junior riders, Tudor will coach the under-23 endurance academy riders as well as running the Olympic junior programme. He will work with the academy riders during winter road training and coach them on the track as they compete in rounds of the track World Cup and amateur six days.

The academy riders will be based in Quarrata, Tuscany, where Tudor will team up with former Tour and Giro rider, Max Sciandri, with an emphasis on development and growth rather than results as GB performance director, stated: “We’ve made coaching changes to set the foundations for 2012, we’re going to give them freedom to experiment.”

Tudor was one of the leading Cwmcarn riders in the mid 1990s representing both Wales and Great Britain in the Tours of Ireland, Canada, the Manx International Week and the European U/23 Road Race Championships.

Top victories include the Mannin Veg Road Race. After gaining a degree in Sports Science he joined the WCU as regional coach before moving to the GB Team as Olympic development coach.

l Cwmcarn young guns Sam Harrison, Matthew Jones and Anthony O’Boyle, clashed head-on contesting an exciting and hard-fought race, the Gateway Cross, round three, of the Welsh Cyclo-Cross League held at Crickhowell on October 19.

One hundred and thirty riders lined up on a course made extremely slippery after heavy overnight rain. In the senior race, O’Boyle went into an early lead from a small group that included Jamieson (Felt Racing) and Harrison.

O’Boyle and Jamieson alternated leading the race up until midway, when Jamieson moved clear gaining a crucial gap. The chasers rode hard to reduce the deficit but Jamieson held on to cross the line 36 seconds clear with O’Boyle an excellent third. Harrison took eighth place, Jones tenth, and Rosser 11th.

Harrison won the junior event ahead of Jones with Porter taking second in the vets’ event.

The Cwmcarn trio were back in action at the weekend for round three of the National Trophy Series at Chantry Park, Ipswich.

Rain fell heavily making the challenging rolling course even more demanding for the 150 riders. Harrison was in unstoppable form in the junior race, racing away from the field for a stunning solo victory.

Jones rode his usual aggressive race to take an excellent 13th place overall. In the senior race, O’Boyle completed an outstanding day for Cwmcarn with a forceful ride for 15th position.

Multi Welsh champion, Ross Porter, was at his commanding best in the Carmarthen Cross, round four, of the Welsh Cyclo-Cross League.

In a tightly contested senior event he rode to a superb third place overall and in the veterans’ race a brilliant first overall.
