NEWPORT conceded a try in injury time to go down to a 17-13 defeat to Llanelli at Rodney Parade.
Tries by Scott Williams and Andrew Coombs had given the Black and Ambers a 13-12 lead going into the closing stages.
But Craig Hawkins crossed for the leaders' third try to give them a deserved victory.
Ebbw Vale also suffered late heartbreak when Swansea scored to save a 20-20 draw. Kristian Owen and Andrew McLaughlan crossed for the Steelmen.

But Pontypool suffered a 30-12 home loss to Pontypridd despite tries from Tom Edwards and Nicky Coughlin.
