JOE Calzaghe further enhanced his legacy as arguably the greatest fighter of the modern era in sensational style in the early hours of Sunday morning, beating four weight world champion Roy Jones Jr at the Mecca of boxing, New York's Madison Square Garden.

Just as in April in Las Vegas against Bernard Hopkins, Calzaghe did things the hard way, clambering off the floor in the very first round after a stiff, straight right to the nose sent him tumbling.

However, Calzaghe recovered in the second round and dominated the fight, outworking, manoeuvring and dominating Jones, who simply didn't have enough left in the tank to deal with the supreme Newbridge southpaw.

Calzaghe cut Jones above his left eye in a huge seventh round and that utterly drained Jones of any remaining hope.

Calzaghe fought much of the contest with his hands down in a performance that will have even impressed the sceptical American audience and he utterly lived up to his prediction of dominating a legend.

All three judges scored the fight 118-109 in Calzaghe's favour, as he moves to 46-0 and contemplates whether to fight one more time.
