Newport 23 Glamorgan 17
A STOP-START Newport stayed in the Championship top echelon with an eventual bonus point four-try win over Wanderers at Rodney Parade, but they made it hard going.
After Wanderers had opened the scoring with a try from Rory Budina, the Brown boys, Adam and Andrew, posted their names on the scoresheet, hooker Andrew looking at a double.
The oppostion had looked lively in the opening stages but the writing was on the wall for them with a half-time score of 15-5.
The Newport back row had something of a shock on the resumption when burly prop Nathan Trevett turned on the afterburners to reach the try line.
But on came the cavalry in the shape of Andrew Coombs, Gethin Robinson and Dafydd Rosser to beef up the scrummage and life became very difficult for the visitors.
Gareth Wyatt and Lewis Roblin began kicking deep to the corners for position and the defence became well stretched.
Craig Hill crossed the line but the ball was forced out of his possession.
With Wanderers down to 14 men with the sin-binning of Alex Luff, Newport secured the bonus point with an Alan Awcock try and a Roblin penalty.
Wanderers had the last word with a try from Tom Rowlands, converted by Scott Sneddon.
Newport: Tries – Andrew Brown (2), Adam Brown, A Awcock. Pen – L Roblin Wanderers: Tries – R Budina, N Trevett, T Rowlands. Con – S Sneddon
