GLAMORGAN start their season tomorrow morning with veteran spinner Robert Croft looking for further improvement on an encouraging 2009 campaign.
Sussex, who were relegated from Division One last season, are the visitors for the curtain-raiser at the Swalec Stadium.
Glamorgan had a hugely encouraging campaign in four-day cricket last year and were a couple of wins away from going back up to the top flight.
There is a confident mood in the Glam camp, with hopes high for success in both the County Championship and one-day game.
“I will be disappointed if people don’t think that we can win something this year,” said Croft, who turns 40 next month.
“The guys are more experienced, they have trained hard this winter and are positive about what lies ahead.
“It was probably quite cloudy last season to determine what was success. We played some very good County Championship cricket at times and we would have done better if some opportunities had gone our way.
“We improved in the four-day game because we stayed in games a lot more whereas we had crumbled in previous years.
“I would love to think that we are good enough to go up in the County Championship and perhaps get a home quarter-final in the Twenty20 Cup.”
Left-hander Will Bragg is set to deputise as opener for Aussie Mark Cosgrove, who is expected to be available next week.
Young seamer Chris Ashling is likely to get the nod with David Harrison and Adam Shantry both sidelined.
Glamorgan squad: G Rees, W Bragg, M Powell, J Dalrymple (captain), B Wright, J Allenby, M Wallace (wicket-keeper), J Harris, R Croft, C Ashling, H Waters, D Cosker.
