PONTYPOOL secured their top flight status with a 20-15 victory over Newport that relegates Ebbw Vale from the Premiership.

Pooler spent most of the game on the back foot but took the spoils thanks to centre Chris Macey’s 74th-minute try.

The hosts led 10-3 at the break thanks to a try from flanker Cae Trayhern and five points from the boot of Geraint O’Driscoll.

Newport struck back with tries from Alex Walker and Dai Pattison but Pontypool stole it at the death.
