TREVETHIN took maximum points from two matches to maintain their lead at the head of the Premier Division.
They were due to visit Llanarth for a league game, but the hosts couldn’t raise a side so Trevethin gained three points and five goals and Llanarth lose a game, three points and five goals.
On Saturday Trevethin beat old rivals Usk Town at the Ruffetts 3-1. Trevethin claimed the points with a 3-1 home win to stay top with a game in hand.
Trevethin led 3-0 at half time and their scorers were Dwain Hunt (2) and Kirk Morgan. The Usk Town goal was scored by Jeremy Barton.
Second placed Pontypool Town played two games in a week at their Albion Road ground, scoring 17 goals. They beat visitors Llanfoist 10-1 and Llanarth 7-0.
Goalscorers against Llanfoist were Simon Pugh (2), Karl Crook, Richard Wakeling with a hat-trick, Scott Taylor, Gavin Rogers and the keeper from the spot.
Scorers against Llanarth were Wakeling with another hat-trick, Leigh Roberts, also with a hat- trick. later adding a fourth.
Gilwern & District played Pandy twice in a week. The sides met in a league game which Pandy won 3-2 after the sides were level 2-2 at half time.
Thomas Baynton and Matthew Williams put Gilwern 2-0 in front but Pandy drew level through Steve Wedlock and Mark Hughes put Pandy level at 2-2 before Shaun Moss struck the Pandy winner in the 80th minute. Two minutes later, Pandy had Gareth Staphnill sent off.
The sides then met at Lower Meadow in the quarter-final of the P & P Open Cup, Pandy again winning, this time 2-1 with goals by Shaun Moss and Leyton Davies, Adam Carrington replying from the penalty spot. Pandy had Michael Smith sent off.
Division One leaders Clydach Wasps suffered a 7-4 defeat at Panteg who led 4-1 at half time. Goal scorers for Panteg were Tom Wise (2), Adam Taghdiri (2), Jon Butcher, Sean Roynan and Luke Whittam with Matthew Williams (2), Scott Ambler and Jordan Powell scoring for Clydach.
They then won 5-3 at New Inn in the quarter-final of the A Jones & Co, Usk, Ltd Benevolent Cup. At the end of 90 minutes the sides were level 1-1 with Alun Willis scoring for New Inn and Tyrone Gravell scoring for the Wasps.
The match then went into penalties, New Inn scoring two through Alun Willis and Russell Boyle and Clydach four via Scott Ambler, Kyle Cheshire, Ryan Watkins and Giles Prosser.
The Benevolent Cup quarter final between Fairfield United and Blaenavon Blues was postponed due to a county league rescheduled match on the Fairfield ground.
Panteg lost 2-1 at neighbours, PILCS whose scorers were Matthew James and James Ronan, Jon Butcher replying.
Tranch won 8-2 at Sebastopol with a hat-trick by Andrew Hayes, Ross Peake (2), Mark Walker (2) and Kyle Tovey also scoring. Alex Lewis scored both Sebastopol’s goals.
Sebastopol then lost 2-1 at home to Race, Andrew Pask scoring, but a Dan Powell own goal plus a goal by Chris Bartlett won it for Race.
In midweek, PILCS beat the Race 6-3 with a hat-trick by Jeremiah, Matthew James, Michael Murton plus a Justin Ferris own goal. Scorers for Race were Chris Bartlett, Rhys Barber and Zak Sallis. Man of the Match for PILCS, Richie Jeremiah.
In a rehearsal match for their Benevolent Cup quarter-final, Blaenavon Blues beat Fairfield United 2-1 in the league after trailing 1-0 at half time.
Govilon lost 3-2 at home to Goytre, but then won their derby match away to Aber Thursdays 7-0. Jamie Laurent and Lewis Meadows scored in the first game with for Goytre, Anthony Richards, Matt Perkins and Ryan Howells replying.
Scorers at Govilon were Ben Bergoyne (4), Coris Seabourne (2) and Danny Marfell, but Thursdays had John Hopper sent off.
Mardy took maximum points from their visit to Cwmffrwdoer with a 3-0 win.
All the goals were scored in the first half. Lewis Welch got two after 20 and 30 minutes and Jayde Kelly chipped in with one in the 25th minute. The match was very well refereed by stand in official Bob Small.
Prescoed have already won the Division Two title, even though they have several games left to play.
In midweek they beat title chasers Clydach B 4-1 after leading 2-1 at half time. Goal scorers for Prescoed were Luke Evans (2), James Henry and David Pugh with the Clydach goal was scored by Nathan Wall.
On Saturday Prescoed won their local derby match with Usk Town B 4-1 after leading 1-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Prescoed were Adrian Eyre, James Brown, Luke Evans and James Henry with the Usk goal scored by Rhys Brooks. This match was also very well refereed by a stand in official, Gordon Snape.
Clydach B bounced back on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Pontypool Town B.
Jasper Morgan put Clydach B into the lead with a goal scored in the 35th minute, Karl Hooper put Pontypoo level early into the second half before goals by Ben Ward and an Evan Hall penalty with five minutes left put Clydach 3-1 up before Richard Edwards got Pontypool’s second goal in the 90th minute.
Trevethin B romped to a midweek 6-1 win over Panteg B after leading 2-0 at half time.
Goal scorers for Trevethin B were Russell Jenkins (2), Dwain Hunt (2), Jason Brown and Justin Jenkins. Dave Eley scored a consolation goal for Panteg B.
After the Trevethin B match the Panteg FC committee decided to withdraw their B side with just a couple of weeks of the season remaining.
The Panteg B team has lost several more players from the core of the side.
Their record will be expunged and the other sides in Division Two will have their records amended.
The future of Division Two is now in doubt for next season and serious changes will have to be made to the league’s format next season.
