THE postponed games in the Fire & Ice Junior Cup and the Villa Dino Plate were completed.

In the Junior Cup, Albion Rovers drew 2-2 with Ty-Sign AFC, before going through 4-2 on penalties. Ponthir went through 8-4 against Bettws Social Club, with Michael Jones (2), Adam Jones (2), Mark Davies (2), Jack Norman and Matthew Woodward scoring. Pill Hibernians were taken to extra time by Pontnewydd United, before winning 5-2.

Machen FC were expelled from the Premier X after failing to field a team on four occasions. The effect on the league standings was minimal, as the top six clubs had all beaten Machen.

Pontnewydd United dented the winning ways of leaders Marshfield, earning a point in a 1-1 draw. The only team with a chance of catching Marshfield is K-2. They gained a 4-1 win at Cwmcarn Athletic. St Julians were in fine form at the Glebelands. They beat Henllys Rangers 9-0, with goals from Nathan Lewis (4), Aneurin Oakley (2), Michael Harrisson, Shaun Collins and Carl Bale. Three goals from Jeff Griffiths (2) and Nathan Borja, gave Graig-Y-Rhacca a 3-2 win over Shaftesbury Youth. Malpas FC could only manage a 1-0 win against Caerleon Town.

The Premier Y division is starting to come to the boil. AC Pontymister have taken over the lead, after the long time leaders Albion Rovers lost at the Longbridge. Ponty won 5-2, with goals from Joe Taylor (3), Jamie Lewis and Laurie Kidman (pen).

Waiting in the wings is third placed Cwmbran Celtic. They beat Lliswerry 6-1 to move within five points of the leaders, with two games in hand. Celtic’s goals came from Chris Pike (2), Rhys Edmunds (2), Lee Smith and Robert Wall. Three goals from Danny Whittaker (2) and Daniel Sims gave Rogerstone a rare win against Spencer Boys Club. Pill AFC won 6-2 against Lucas Cwmbran, with goals from David Doody (3), Danny Cole (2) and Steve Prince. Villa Dino Christchurch and Newport Corinthians drew 4-4 at the Glebelands.

Four games in Division One didn’t concern the top three clubs. Malpas FC won 4-2 against Marshfield. CCYP AFC hit four goals past Sporting Baneswell Social, without reply. The Six in Hand won 6-2 against K-2. Seven goals from Rhys Jeffrey (2), Luke Roberts, Kyle Roberts, Greg Taylor, Terry Whatley and Daniel Freestone, gave AC Pontymister a 7-0 win against Caerleon Town.

In Division Two, Graig-Y-Rhacca made it eight clean sheets, with a 3-0 win over Cwmbran Celtic. Andrew Gomer, Wayne Paul and Matthew Phillips got the goals. Four goals from Michael Farr, Corey Casagrande, Stuart Jones and Paul Walker gave Oakfield Inn a 4-1 win against Cwmcarn Athletic. Racing Club Newport won 3-0 against Rogerstone with goals from Chris Desmond (2) and Clifford Bale. Marshfield beat Newport Eagles 4-3 at Tredegar Park.

St Julians AFC gained their 17th win in a row to open up a 12-point lead at the top of Division Three. The Saints beat Gaer Park Rangers 5-1, with Warwick Drew (2), Billy Jordan, Mark Francis and Dale Crawley scoring. FC Llanyrafon and Coed Eva Athletic shared the points, in a 2-2 draw. Newport Eagles held Pill AFC to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
