K-2 STILL have the summit of Premier X in sight after a convincing 2-1 win over leaders Marshfield.
It was Marshfield’s first defeat of the season and gives K-2, whose goals were scored by Arron Compton, a fighting chance of been crowned champions. They were well worth their win, which would have been by more goals were it not for the excellent goalkeeping of Craig Marshall.
Graig-Y-Rhacca outplayed Pill Hibernians to record a 5-2 win with Nathan Borja (4) and Jeff Griffiths getting the goals. Malpas FC moved into second place, after a 3-1 win against Henllys Rangers. St Julians won 4-0 against Caerleon Town with goals from Aneurin Oakley, Warwick Drew, Michael Harrison and Nathan Lewis. Third-placed Pontnewydd United eased to a 4-0 win against Shaftesbury Youth. John Forward, Phil Jarman, Sheldon Williams and Lee Tudball scored. The race to become Premier Y champions is at fever pitch. Leaders Albion Rovers outplayed Spencer Boys Club to gain a 8-1 win. Marcus Corner (3) Arron Screen (2), Mark Stoneman, Marc Savigar and James Bubela scored. Second-placed AC Pontymister went down 2-1 to Lliswerry, whose goals came from Neil Evans and Ashton Harrison, while third-placed Cwmbran Celtic could only manage a 2-2 draw with local rivals Coed Eva Athletic.
Lucas Cwmbran put a stop to Pill AFC’s hopes with a 5-2 home win. Jordan White, Luke Dyke, Chris Dawes (2) and Nathan Williams scored. Cromwell Youth beat Newport Corinthians 1-0 while Trethomas Bluebirds hung on to gain a 3-2 win against lowly Rogerstone.
Pontnewydd United remain top of Division One despite not having a game. Second-placed Albion Rovers won 6-2 against CCYP AFC. Goals from Chris Magness (2) and Cameron Phasey gave Ty-Sign AFC a 3-0 win over Caerleon Town and AC Pontymister won 3-0 against the Six in Hand thanks to strikes from Daniel Freestone (2) and Robert Kelso.
Adam Evans (2), Ben Giles plus an own goal gave Marshfield a 4-0 win against Sporting Baneswell Social, Malpas FC edged a 1-0 win at home to Ponthir and Bettws Social Club and K-2 shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the Lane.
Graig-Y-Rhacca are heading for the top of Division Two. They beat Bettws Social Club 4-0, with Andrew Gomer, Barry Burnett (2) and Matthew Phillips scoring. This puts them into second place with games in hand and they have kept nine clean sheets this season. Goals from Michael Farr (2), Paul Walker (2), Luke Roberts and Gareth Williams gave Oakfield Inn a 6-2 win against Rogerstone. Leaders Waterfront United won 5-2 against Lliswerry, with goals from Che Sully, Paul White, David Craddock, Lee Arnold, plus an own goal. Marshfield beat Cwmbran Celtic 3-1 thanks to a Jason Kelly hat-trick. Racing Club Newport put the brakes on Division Three leaders St Julians AFC. The Saints were held to a 1-1 draw, dropping their first points of the season.
Lucas Cwmbran seconds made it a club winning double when they beat Albion Rovers 3-0. Richard Roberts (2) and Keith Thomas got the goals. FC Llanyrafon beat second placed Pill Hibernians 1-0 while Pill AFC and Ty-Sign AFC drew 3-3 at Pill Sports.
Pavilions moved closer to winning the Sunday League with a 3-2 win over Glan-yr-Afon, David Evans and Craig Thomas (2) scored.
St Julians Old Boys won 4-1 at home to Athletico Allsorts, the Docks Cons and Real Bettws shared the points in a 3-3 draw and goals from Barne Nolan and Ryan Havard gave Kwik-Kleen AFC a 2-0 win against Rogerstone United. Bettws Social AFC failed to turn up against Whitehead Haymakers.
