Marshfield has achieved their dream of becoming champions in their last season in the Premier X. K-2 were held to a 1-1 draw by St Julians AFC which gave Marshfield an unassailable lead. Pontnewydd United won 5-1 away to Tredegar Arms to move into the runners-up spot. Pill Hibernians hit Henllys Rangers for six without any reply. The drama of the day was the fight to become Premier Y champions. With AC Pontymister finishing their season on fifty-three points, it was up to Albion Rovers, who needed a win, and Cwmbran Celtic, who needed a draw, to try to overtake Ponty for the championship. Albion was leading 2-1, with a big crowd encouraging Celtic to score. Under immense pressure, the Albion fullback headed in an own goal to give Celtic the draw they wanted. Cromwell Youth and Lliswerry shared the points in a 4-4 draw at Duffryn School. Lucas Cwmbran ended their season on a strong note with a 6-1 win against Villa Dino Christchurch. Aaron Boswell (2), James Lloyd (2), Shaun Logue and Aaron Ewers got the goals.

In Division One, Pontnewydd United have been top for most of the season. Second placed Lliswerry are waiting in the wings to pip them for the title. Lliswerry have four games in hand and are five points behind.

They did their chances a power of good with a 6-4 win against CCYP AFC. AC Pontymister’s Kyle Roberts put pay to Albion Rovers hopes with a 1-0 win at Longbridge. Bettws Social Club won 3-0 at home to Caerleon Town. K-2 beat Malpas FC 7-3. A Kyle Smith goal was enough to give Marshfield a 1-0 win over the Six in Hand.

Oakfield Inn remains in control of the Division Two title. They won 8-2 against Cwmbran Celtic to take a one point lead over Waterfront United. Their goal scorers were Michael Gough (2), Stuart Jones (2), Luke Roberts, Paul Walker, Jamie Thompson and Gareth Davies.

Graig-Y-Rhacca raced to a 5-1 win against Lliswerry with Matthew Phillips (3), Luke Hurwood and Rhys Pring scoring. Bettws Social Club failed to raise a team against County Athletic.

The fight in Division Three is for the runners-up place after St Julians AFC took the title. The Ferns and Coed Eva fought hard to earn a point in their 3-3 draw. Four goals from James Collins (2), Darren Bennett and Paul Mincher, gave Racing Club Newport a 4-1 win against Ty-Sign AFC. Pill AFC beat FC Llanyrafon 3-2 at the Pill Sports Ground. Bettws Social AFC have withdrawn from the Sunday League, which benefits Whitehead Haymakers. Of the top four clubs, the Haymakers were the only club to lose to Bettws. The revised table leaves the Haymakers four points clear of the Docks Cons.

The Haymakers gave their title chances a boost with a 2-1 win against T.R.W, with goals from James Periam and a 25-yard screamer from Gareth Davies to win the game. The Docks Cons beat Glan-Yr- Afon 3-1. Real Bettws went down 8-0 to Pavillions with David Evans (2), Craig Thomas (3), Gavin James, Aron Morrison and Josh Henshaw scoring. Rogerstone United earn a point in their 3-3 draw away to Athletic Allsorts.

Tuesday’s Fire & Ice Junior Cup final was won by Ponthir AFC. They beat Albion Rovers 2-1 after extra-time. The game started slowly, but warmed up in the second half.

End to end play saw Albion take the lead and look certain to take the cup. Ponthir never gave up and got the equaliser in the last 30 seconds of normal time.

In extra-time, Ponthir again left it to the last minute before slotting home the match winner. The game was well refereed by veteran Trevor Kemp.
