IAN Poulter and Martin Kaymer were two up overnight but with 14 holes still to play, the European pair were pegged back when Rickie Fowler holed a bunker shot for an eagle on the 11th and Phil Mickelson birdied the 13th.
But they won the next two and Kaymer - who did not make a single birdie - crucially saved par from a greenside bunker on the 16th to help condemn world number two Mickelson to his third-straight defeat and put Europe 9-6 ahead.
