JUST as happened at The Belfry in 2002, Tiger Woods may not be in a position to influence who wins the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor tomorrow.
Europe need five of the 12 singles after dropping only half a point in an incredible performance today, but Woods goes out in the eighth spot - and Phil Mickelson is 10th.
They play Italian Francesco Molinari and Swede Peter Hanson respectively, with home captain Colin Montgomerie going strong at the top like Sam Torrance eight years ago.
On that occasion Woods was in the anchor role and was irrelevant to the outcome once Paul McGinley had clinched victory in the ninth game.
And that was after the two teams were level 8-8 going into the singles. Now the Americans are in a far worse position.
