JENNY McLoughlin admits she will look back on her IPC World Athletics Championship debut with as many good memories as bad after failing to close her campaign with a second medal.

The 19-year-old – from Chepstow – had one last chance to reach the podium in the T37 100m final yesterday but couldn’t quite find enough as she finished seventh in a tight race.

Less than a second separated the field, with the Aviva GB&NI sprinter’s time of 14.78seconds just over half a second away from bronze at Christchurch’s Queen Elizabeth II Park.

McLoughlin had earlier in the week come eighth in the 200m final but won bronze in the 4x100m relay and after ending with seventh, she insists her recollections will be mixed.

“It wasn’t great but I am glad I made the final. It was quite hard being in lane eight and I just couldn’t keep up with the other girls,” said McLoughlin.

“I am suffering from mixed emotions, I wish I could have done better in the 100m, I didn’t but I will look at what I have done here and build on it.

“The whole championships for me have been mixed, obviously crashing out of the 200m knocked me a bit but getting bronze in the relay the way we did built me back up.

“I couldn’t do it again in the 100m final but it was nothing to do with fatigue, the girls were really quick and I just couldn’t keep up with them.”

Ukraine’s Viktoriya Kravchenko claimed gold in 14.21seconds, while Germany’s Maria Seifert took silver and McLoughlin’s fellow Brit Katrina Hart bronze.

And with the London Paralympics now the next big thing for McLoughlin, she has vowed to work day and night to ensure all that she remembers from 2012 is positive. “I think it was an OK championships but I know I can do better than I have done and that there is plenty more to come from me,” she added.

“I just have to do more training and get stronger and hopefully by the London 2012 Paralympics in 18 months I will be a lot stronger and a lot better.”
