EBBW Vale head to the Brewery Field in the Swalec Cup tomorrow afternoon for what they hope will be the first of two clashes against Bridgend.
Play-offs have been introduced this season that will put the two Division One champions up against the side that finished bottom of the Premiership for a place in the top flight.
The Steelmen are in a fight for top spot in the east while the Ravens are running away with things out west.
“They are perceived to be on the same level as us so it is a good yardstick,” said Ebbw head coach Neil Edwards.
“I know that they have got a good team and a good coaching set up so it will be a big challenge.
“The main aim this season is obviously winning the league and you do dread picking up a couple of knocks, but the cup is still a useful exercise.
“We are in a tight battle at the top of the division and this will help us get some rhythm after a frustrating few weeks of postponements.
“Players enjoy intense games and this will be one.”
