POOLER survived a late scare to win a thrilling Swalec Cup game 26-23 against the determined students of UWIC at Cyncoed this afternoon.
Pontypool led 26-16 with 20 minutes to go but a converted Dan Bibby try for UWIC made for a tense finale.
The visitors' four tries were scored by Dan Robinson (2), Jamie Jeune and Gareth Williams. Outside-half Tom Hancock kicked three conversions.
CROSS KEYS crashed out after losing 29-22 to Swansea at Pandy Park.
Flanker Rob Nash, fly-half Steffan Jones and winger Marcus Johnstone crossed for the hosts.
However, a length of the field score by Eli Walker won it in injury time for the Whites when the game seemed set to go into injury time.
Division One East title hopefuls NEWBRIDGE and EBBW VALE both lost, the former going down 33-21 in extra time at Merthyr and the latter losing 27-6 in Bridgend.
