DAN Lydiate insists Wales will resolve their problems in time for Saturday’s visit to Murrayfield to take on the rejuvenated Scotland team, who impressed against France after beating South Africa in the autumn series.

The Newport Gwent Dragons flanker says the Welsh team are hurting after their 26-19 setback against England at the Millennium Stadium in their opening game of the Six Nations on Friday night.

It was not the Six Nations debut the 23-year-old blindside would have wanted, their setback taking Wales’ run without a win to eight games.

“There is nobody hurting more than the players,” Lydiate admitted after Wales’ defeat by England. “We’ll take a long hard look at it and we’ll sort it out for next weekend, we’ve got to.

“We’ve got to turn it around next weekend in Scotland and we’ve got to start winning. We are all disappointed, but there was no lack of effort against England.

“They had a big pack and I certainly felt all the big hits. I’m pleased with some aspects of the game, but I got smashed around a couple of times, which is part and parcel of it.”

Lydiate felt that the yellow card Wales conceded when prop Craig Mitchell was sin-binned proved crucial – they conceded a try in that period, and they even conceded a penalty when England were down to 14 men after lock Louis Deacon was yellow-carded without scoring themselves.

“They made it count when we had a player sin-binned and we didn’t,” he said. “When you have a man extra you have to capitalise on it.

“England are a quality side and they got the result away from home, which is the sign of a good team. They are all massive games now and they are all must-win games as well, but we have started with a loss.”

But Lydiate promised: “If we can get back to winning ways momentum will take us through.

“But we’ll have to be on our guard against Scotland, they had the in-form back row in last season’s Six Nations.”
