YEMI Odubade scored the only goal of the game as Newport County beat Merthyr Town 1-0 in a friendly at Penydarren Park last night.
“It was a good workout in tough conditions and most importantly there were no injuries ahead of Friday's match against Luton Town,” said caretaker boss Tim Harris.
With Chris Todd suspended for the Hatters' visit to Spytty Park, captain Gary Warren returned to the side for the first time since his sending off at Tamworth last month.
“It was great for people like Yemi and Gary to get the full 90 minutes because they haven't done that for a long time. I'm very happy with the way things went” added Harris.
Striker Steven Lennon started alongside Odubade and the pair will challenge Charlie Griffin and Robbie Matthews for a starting place on Friday.
County: Thompson, Odhiambo, Warren, Hatswell, Collins, Burns, Foley, Fowler, Lennon, Odubade, McDonald Subs (all used): Montgomery, Hughes, Morgan, Miller
