PONTYPOOL'S Jeff Evans won the Welsh light-heavyweight title by beating champion Shon Davies at the Newport Centre on Saturday night.
Llanelli's Davies retired at the start of the seventh round with a damaged nose after Evans had dominated every round.
But there was disappointment for Evans' fellow headliner Lee Churcher who could only draw his Welsh light-middleweight title bout against Bargoed's Gary Cooper.
With four rounds completed referee Roddy Evans scored the fight 38-38 after the 30-year-old sustained an accidental injury to his right hand in front of his home crowd.
Elsewhere on the George & Dragon Promotions bill there were wins for ex-Team Calzaghe star Kerry Hope, St Joseph's-trained Frankie Borg and Cefn Fforest fighters Rob Turley and Dai Jones, the latter on his pro debut.
Newbridge's Darren Pryce had to settle for a technical draw against Andy Roberts after sustaining an accidental injury to his calf muscle after just 26 seconds of the opening fight of the night.
