NEWPORT County boss Anthony Hudson is promising fans “several big things” to look forward to in the coming weeks.
The County boss has been beavering away behind the scenes for a fortnight since the close of the season and the Argus can reveal that:
- County are closing in on new signings
- Are close to announcing several contract renewals, with one being signed today
- Have lined up some other big pre-season friendlies to complement the visit of Stoke City
All of that is likely to be music to the ears of County fans braced to lose their player of the year Paul Bignot, who is a target for Championship outfit Leicester City, as revealed in yesterday’s Argus.
However, Hudson is determined to get a move on with the bulk of his transfer targets identified and the club working double time on securing the players he wants to stay on.
“I know this is a frustrating time for supporters who are desperate for news, but we are moving along nicely on a lot of fronts and I can’t wait until we can confirm things to our fans,” he said.
“I haven’t really been off the phone this week other than when I have been at games and we are moving towards where we want to be. We have several big things in the pipeline and I think this is an exciting time for the club.”
It is understood that one of Hudson’s targets is Swansea City winger Kerry Morgan.
The popular Wales U21 ace has been on loan at Spytty Park for the last two seasons and is out of contract at the Liberty Stadium this summer.
It is understood that Morgan would welcome the opportunity to move to Newport but is waiting to see what plans his parent club have for him.
Meanwhile, the Exiles are close to signing one of the key members of their squad for this term who is believed to have Football League suitors, including Aldershot.
“We are hoping to announce a signing today, we’ve been working hard on it,” director of football Tim Harris confirmed.
