GAVIN Henson is being urged to make the most of his Wales recall and prove what a class act he is by teammate Stephen Jones.

The talented but enigmatic Henson is back from the international wilderness after being named in Warren Gatland’s 26-man squad for next month’s Barbarians clash.

The Toulon centre, 29, looks set to make his first Wales appearance in more than two years and win his 32nd cap.

Injuries and time away from the game to build a media profile have restricted Henson’s recent playing career.

But the 2005 and 2008 Grand Slam winner was given regular game time in recent weeks by the Top 14 side and his form has been good.

Jones, almost certain to win his 100th cap in the Baa-Baas game, is encouraging the former Ospreys star to shine against the world famous invitational side.

The Scarlets outside-half said: “We all know what a fantastic player he is and Gav is going to be looking forward to playing and putting in a good performance.

“Gav’s obviously a quality player, we know that.

“He will look forward to this opportunity and will be trying to make the most of it, as every other member of that 26-man squad will try and do.”

If Jones gets to his century in the Millennium Stadium showdown with the Barbarians, he and Gareth Thomas will become Wales’ most capped players.

On the prospect of making it 100 not out, the 33-year-old, who made his Wales debut against South Africa in 1998’s ignominious 96-13 thrashing at Loftus Versfeld, said: “I am excited. It’s great to be part of the 26-man squad, and if I’m lucky enough to get on the park, then that will be fantastic.

“It will be great and I’ll enjoy the moment and it’ll be great if we can produce a good team performance and win.” The Barbarians have recruited some of the world’s finest players to face Wales.

They include Springboks François Steyn and Ruan Pienaar, Aussie legend George Smith, Italy’s talismanic Sergio Parisse and Wales great Martyn Williams.

And 2005 Lion, Sale’s ex-Scarlets scrum-half Dwayne Peel is understood to have received an invitation to join their squad.

Jones said Wales will have to be at their best to win: “They’ve got a quality squad – they are all fantastic players. We realise it’s going to be a difficult match, but we’re looking forward to it.”
