NEWPORT’S Simon Church is dreaming of Wembley glory with Premier League football the glittering prize in the Championship play-off final.
The Reading striker helped see off Cardiff City in Tuesday’s semi-final and has now set his sights on beating Swansea City on Monday, May 30.
That won’t make him very popular with his Welsh international teammates Ashley Williams and Joe Allen but he’s not bothered in the slightest.
“I don’t mind about that. It was great to see two Welsh clubs in the play-offs but I’ll be happy to upset a few more of the boys,” said the 22-year-old, who qualifies for Wales through his Newport grandfather.
“It was a great night. Credit to the boys, we gave it our all and it was fantastic,” he added after the 3-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium.
“We haven’t had as much credit as we should have had but we showed what a good side we are against Cardiff.”
Swansea, who overcame Nottingham Forest 3-1 to make the final, will provide a stern test for the Royals but Church is confident he will be a Premier League player in August.
“It will be a big challenge but it’s a play-off final and we’ll concentrate on us,” he said.
“They’ve done fantastic to get where they are but so have we.
“We’ll respect them but we all believe we have the quality to beat them.
“I’ve never played at Wembley, not many of us have, and we can’t wait.
“Hopefully I can get on and make an impact. I’ll just be ready to play whatever part I can and do my best, that’s what we’ve done all season and it’s got us this far.”
